Attach a Head Unit to a grease gun
This article explains how to correctly attach a GreaseBoss head unit to a manual grease gun.
Before You Start
- GreaseBoss head units are supplied with a standard JIC 7/16" female fitting as the inlet.
- To fit the head unit to your grease gun, GreaseBoss provides an adapter.
- Please ensure GreaseBoss is aware of the brand and model of grease gun you use on site so the correct male adapter can be supplied.

Step-by-Step: Attach the Head Unit
-
Remove existing hose and coupler
- Remove the original hose or rigid line and coupler from your grease gun.
-
Fit the adapter to the grease gun
- Install the supplied adapter to the grease gun outlet.

-
Attach the head unit
- Hand-screw the GreaseBoss head unit onto the adapter.
- Rotate the head unit to the desired orientation for comfortable use.
-
Tighten and secure the fittings
- Using suitable spanners, tighten the JIC fittings.
- Apply enough force to lock the fittings in position and prevent leaks.

Tips and Important Notes
⚠️ Handle the locking coupler with care
The locking coupler contains an internal antenna that reads RFID chips.
- Do not drop, hit, or use the coupler as a lever.
- Damage to the coupler or antenna can cause performance issues and may require replacement of the entire head unit assembly.
⚠️ Purge packing grease before use
Before putting the head unit into service:
- Pump grease through the unit until your own grease is clearly exiting the head unit.
- This ensures any packing grease is fully purged, which is important if grease compatibility is a concern.
